In the article “Get Smarter”, Jamais Cascio presents an image of a futuristic, but familiar world not too far in the future. The text can be seen as a strong contrast to the article “Is Google Making Us Stupid?” in that instead of treating modern technological advances as having a negative impact on humanity, it offers reasons why technology of the future could make humanity evolve as a whole. “Get Smarter” uses examples of new technology such as the possibility of a connection directly to an information source such as the Internet through one’s own body, while “Is Google Making Us Stupid?” focuses on the idea that the Internet lifestyle is causing the human race as a whole to gain shorter attention spans due to the way information is presented. Both sides have legitimate arguments for the scenario that they describe, but neither can really be considered the correct viewpoint, as we can’t predict the future at this point in time.
