SWA5

My first advertisement came from Ebony magazine. This magazine publishes stories that are of interest to the African-American population, featuring articles about many popular black celebrities and the cultural interests of the black population. In the past, the magazine has been aimed towards a more mature audience, but recently it has begun to be more friendly to younger readers. Other than ads such as the one I chose, the magazine often runs ads related to health and beauty products, as well as clothes and general household appliances. The publisher assumes that the reader is interested in their heritage and culture, and that they follow general stereotypes about their culture.

My second advertisement came from Cosmopolitan magazine, also known as Cosmo. The magazine covers a variety of topics centered around the interests of women. This ranges from relationships to career help. The magazine is read primarily by younger women of all cultures and ethnicities. Some of the most often advertised products in Cosmo are beauty care products, such as hair care products or skin care products, and ads for lines of clothing and accessories. The publisher assumes that the reader is a woman, and has stereotypical interests in fashion and love.
